Jordan Pickford: Everton goalkeeper's 'erratic' form a dilemma for England

Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford's "erratic" club form has given England boss Gareth Southgate a "dilemma", says former Blackburn striker Chris Sutton. Pickford, 25, played in all of England's matches at the 2018 World Cup and was also Southgate's number one during the Euro 2020 qualifying games. But he has made club errors and was at fault for a goal by Crystal Palace's Christian Benteke on Saturday. "Pickford has not played well enough," said Sutton on BBC Radio 5 Live. In England's last two Euro 2020 qualifiers, Pickford started against Montenegro, but, with qualification then secured, Burnley's Nick Pope played against Kosovo. Aston Villa's Tom Heaton was also in the squad. Sheffield United's Dean Henderson, on loan from Manchester United, has not won a senior England cap, but has represented the Under-21s. This season, both Henderson and Pope have kept nine Premier League clean sheets, the joint highest n...

Jurgen Klinsmann steps down as Hertha Berlin interim boss after just 10 weeks

Jurgen Klinsmann has stepped down as Hertha Berlin's interim head coach after just 10 weeks in charge. In November, the former Tottenham, Inter Milan and Bayern Munich striker, 55, was named as the club's boss until the end of the season. Hertha won just three of Klinsmann's nine league matches in charge and are 14th in the Bundesliga. But Klinsmann says he cannot live up to his "potential" without the "trust" of those involved with the club. "We were on a very good path in the relatively short time, and thanks to the support of many people, we are now six points away from the relegation places despite mostly difficult games," Klinsmann wrote on Facebook . "I am firmly convinced that Hertha will achieve the goal - remaining in the league. "As head coach, however, I also need the trust of the people involved with this task, which has not yet been completed. "Unity, cohesion and focus on the essential are the most impo...

Mike Tyson, Donald Trump and boxing's greatest shock 30 years on

"I'm not going to Tyson's dressing room. I can't go near him. It might rub off. The same thing could happen to me." Those were the reported words of Donald Trump  moments after his friend and client Mike Tyson had been beaten by James 'Buster' Douglas in boxing's greatest shock. It was a day shaped by turmoil. It was a day where desperate corner men made icepacks out of rubber gloves, or condoms, depending on who you believe. It was a day where millions of dollars disappeared for those with skin in the game. Decades later, The Killers wrote a song about the chaos."When I saw him go down, it felt like somebody lied," the lyrics read. Thirty years have passed since the unthinkable occurred. Nobody lied, it really did happen. https://free-sports-games.org/

Super Bowl 2020: Vince Lombardi, the story behind the name on NFL's biggest prize

There is a name that resonates with American football fans across generations. When Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers meet in the Super Bowl on Sunday, the very prize on offer carries it. The Vince Lombardi Trophy. Lombardi was a five-time National Football League-winning coach, an icon of the game who is still celebrated half a century on from his death, as the NFL's 100th season comes to a close. His legend speaks of a man who inspired players through fear, iron discipline, and confrontational coaching techniques. A leader who took a no-hope Green Bay Packers team and won five titles in seven years between 1961 and 1967. But beneath the steely exterior of his success are deeper achievements that carry Lombardi's legacy beyond sport, in battling discrimination, championing equality and breaking down racial barriers. https://free-sports-games.org/

Oksana Masters: Paralympic champion on Chernobyl, Tokyo 2020 and upbringing in Ukraine

Standing on a podium by Russia's Black Sea coast, Oksana Masters felt a surge of pride as the anthems played. It wasn't her first Paralympic medal, but this one was extra special. She had just won cross country skiing silver at the Sochi Winter Games of 2014. As she held her prize, the flag of neighbouring Ukraine was raised for the winner, Lyudmila Pavlenko. Masters was herself born in Ukraine in 1989, three years after the Chernobyl nuclear disaster. She was born with severe physical defects caused by exposure to radiation. In Sochi she was competing for the USA, the country where she grew up, an adopted child raised by a single mother. Returning to somewhere so close to the country of her birth had been a big motivation for qualifying to compete in Russia. "It was kind of coming full circle," she says. "It wasn't my gold-medal moment, but it sure felt like it." Oksana's moment would come. Four years later, two of the five medals she won a...

Haringey, Harvard & Hollywood: The fabulous Temi Fagbenle and family

Temi Fagbenle's basketball journey began on a court marked with tramlines, not free-throw lines. A little over a decade ago, she was playing tennis with her younger sister in north London, without a single hoop dream in her head. Last month, she played a low-key pick-up game with three of her brothers on a neighbourhood court in the capital. The locations are only few miles apart. The cast of characters drawn from the same family. The switch apparently simple. But the route between the two times and places is a fantastical trip via Harvard and Hollywood, Lagos and Los Angeles, Stratford and Salamanca. And the most exciting chapter may be about to be written. "We had a plan to be the next Serena and Venus. It didn't turn out that way." Temi and her younger sister Torera had just finished a practice session, hitting with a hired coach, when her father Tunde approached. Six foot three inches tall, 14 years old, with a bullwhip forehand, a concussive serve ...

'Take the next shot' - the new message from Kobe Bryant's final game

It is the last game of Kobe Bryant's career, on the final day of the 2016 NBA season, and his Los Angeles Lakers are down 10 with three minutes and change to go. The result of this game has little meaning. His Lakers team, well past their prime, are not heading to the play-offs, and neither are their opponents, the Utah Jazz. The NBA story of the day is north of LA in Oakland, where the Golden State Warriors are about to become the most successful regular season team in NBA history. This is Kobe's final game, but the action is elsewhere, and he is going to lose. The Lakers were the worst team in the Western Conference that year, having finished second-last the year before. Kobe, then 37, was a titan of the game - a winner of five championships - but he had hobbled towards retirement, overpaid and underproductive, barking at young and inadequate team-mates all year. Two years earlier, an Achilles injury had robbed him of his powers, closing the window on 15 years of greatne...

Odion Ighalo: Man Utd forward included in squad for Premier League game at Chelsea

Manchester United forward Odion Ighalo will be in the squad for Monday's Premier League game at Chelsea, says manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. Ighalo missed the club's  training camp  in Spain due to fears the coronavirus outbreak may have led to him being refused entry back into the UK. The Nigerian, 30, joined United  on loan  from Shanghai Shenhua on 31 January. "We want to integrate him as quickly as we can because he is desperate to play for us," Solskjaer said. "He is going to travel with us [to Stamford Bridge]. We will just see on his fitness work this week and I think we will get him sharp." Manchester United apply for permission to install rail seating United's post-Ferguson signings - success or failure? The former Watford forward moved to the Chinese Super League in 2017, first with Changchun Yatai. https://football4arab.com/

Fifa and Fifpro to launch global fund for players' salary protection

Fifa and Fifpro - the world players' union - have set up a global fund to protect players' salaries. The Fifa Fund for Football Players (Fifa FFP) will provide financial support to players who have not been - and will not be - paid by their club. World governing body Fifa has set aside $16m (£12.3m) for the fund up to 2022, split into yearly allocations. Another $5m (£3.8m) has also been allocated for players affected between July 2015 and June 2020. In a statement, Fifa and Fifpro said: "While these grants will not cover the full amount of salaries owed to players, this fund will provide an important safety net." Fifa president Gianni Infantino added: "This agreement and our commitment to helping players in a difficult situation show how we interpret our role as world football's governing body. "We are also here to reach out to those in need, especially within the football community, and that starts with the players, who are the key figures...

Grand National 2020: Tiger Roll given top weight for Aintree race in April

Tiger Roll will have to carry top weight if he is to become the first horse to win the Grand National three years in a row. The 2018 and 2019 winner, trained in Ireland by Gordon Elliott, has been given 11st 10lb alongside stablemate Delta Work. Each contender is allotted a different weight based on their form, as the National is a 'handicap' chase. The Grand National will take place at Aintree on 4 April. The next horse in the weights is Bristol De Mai (11st 8lb), trained by Nigel Twiston-Davies. Other leading contenders include last year's Willie Mullins-trained Irish National winner Burrows Saint (10st 10lb) and Warwick's Classic Chase victor Kimberlite Candy (10st 4lb) owned by JP McManus. https://football4arab.com/

Football racism: ‘You don’t know what it’s like’

These are just some of the personal experiences that footballers have shared in a new film on BBC Three, Shame in The Game, which takes a look at racism in English football, right through from the Premier League to the lower leagues and also the women’s game. Premier League winter break: What is your club doing in their fortnight off?

For the first time in its history the Premier League is taking a two-week winter break. Don't fret, this doesn't mean you will be without top-flight English football for a fortnight, because games are staggered over the next two weekends. Matchweek 26 sees eight teams playing on 8-9 February and the other 12 playing from 14-17 February. The break was agreed in June 2018 by the Football Association, Premier League and English Football League. The FA described it as "a significant moment" and - with the Euros coming up this summer - one that "will greatly benefit club and country". Expect to see Premier League stars snapped at luxury resorts, taking selfies with Salt Bae and being put through their paces in warm-weather training camps. https://www.sportstalknow.net/

Liverpool: 'I am pinching myself' says chairman Tom Werner

Liverpool chairman Tom Werner says he is having to "pinch himself" to believe the standards being set by Jurgen Klopp's team this season. The Reds have surged into a 22-point lead at the top of the Premier League, dropping only two points from their opening 25 games. Liverpool have also reached the Champions League knockout stage, and the fifth round of the FA Cup. "I am pinching myself, but we haven't done the job yet," said Werner. "I keep saying to everyone I talk to that we really need to savour this because I appreciate the record we have achieved so far and I don't think it is going to come along quickly [again]." https://www.sportstalknow.net/

Man Utd: Problems facing Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in winter break

Before Ole Gunnar Solskjaer headed out into the Old Trafford corridors after his post-match news conference, the Manchester United manager said to the assembled journalists: "Enjoy your break." After the 0-0 draw against Wolves, United do not play again until 17 February, when they visit Chelsea, the team currently in the fourth spot which, in terms of the Premier League, is now Solskjaer's target. But there are more issues than merely trying to haul back the six-point lead Frank Lampard's side have that need to be addressed by United. And it is not certain, even with the additions of Bruno Fernandes and Odion Ighalo, that they have all the answers. https://www.rangerssportsshop.com/

When can Liverpool win Premier League title?

The Premier League title moved closer into Liverpool sights on Sunday without Jurgen Klopp's side even kicking a ball. Tottenham's 2-0 victory against Manchester City means the Reds are an incredible 22 points ahead of second place. After 30 years of slip-ups and near misses, Reds fans - or a decent number of them - now believe a first title since 1990 is tantalisingly within their grasp, even if manager Jurgen Klopp is refusing to celebrate just yet. But just when Liverpool fans thought their season could not get any better, the prospect of sealing the title at the home of their nearest rivals Everton, is now a very real one. BBC Sport has crunched the numbers to work out when and where Liverpool could become champions again. https://www.rangerssportsshop.com/

Neymar: PSG star celebrates birthday with lavish bash

Neymar celebrated his upcoming 28th birthday with a lavish party at Parisian nightclub Yoyo on Sunday. Paris St-Germain manager Thomas Tuchel skipped  the white-themed party under the Palais de Tokyo, after branding it "a distraction", with the event coming just two days before their next game. It appeared to be a sentiment not shared by the Brazilian's team-mates and celebrity pals however, with Edinson Cavani, Marco Verratti and Angel di Maria embracing the dress code and injured Lyon winger Memphis Depay sporting a pair of £1,200 boots. https://www.rangerssportsshop.com/

Glenn Murray: Brighton striker signs one-year contract extension

Brighton striker Glenn Murray has signed a one-year contract extension to run to June 2021. The 36-year-old, whose deal had been set to expire in the summer, has scored 111 goals in 278 games across two spells at the club. Murray has only made four league starts this season, and had been linked with a January move away . But scored his first league goal of the campaign in Saturday's 3-3 draw at West Ham. "Everyone knows what Glenn brings to the club, and he's an important member of the squad - on and off the pitch - and he showed that in abundance on Saturday at West Ham," manager Graham Potter said. "I've always said he's got a big part to play here. https://www.rangerssportsshop.com/

Below is a list of 35 players who have also achieved 300 starts in the top flight of English football with a single club during their career. All you have to do is read the clues and try to name as many players as you can in four minutes. https://www.rangerssportsshop.com/
